Bradford has been named as UK City of Culture 2025. Their vision is to use arts and culture to fuel the social, economic and creative renaissance of their district; to make Bradford one of the most welcoming places in the UK where artists, producers, audiences and creative entrepreneurs can flourish. Bradford 2025 is looking for a head of audience to contribute to strategic plans for Bradford 2025 to develop and grow audiences across the Bradford district, nationally and internationally as well as develop and communicate the brand, their values and attract visitors both online and in person.

Bradford City of Culture 2025 will ensure Bradford’s profile, reputation and cultural activity maintains a high level of respect within the district, the wider West Yorkshire region, nationally and internationally. The successful candidate will have a passion for audiences with a strong background in marketing, communications and brand development, as well as understanding tourism and the visitor experience in the UK. This is a full-time role, at the Bradford 2025 office in Bradford city centre. It is a fixed term contract to March 2026.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
To ensure the reputation and profile of Bradford 2025 is widely recognised and communicated within the district, region, nationally and internationally.
To develop and manage effective communications, audience development, commercial and public relations strategies for all aspects of Bradford 2025 and its programme.
To oversee the development of the company’s relationship with the public, participants, stakeholders, business partners, press and media through a creative approach to communications, relationship building, and customer services.
To drive the Communications Strategy, in collaboration with the Directors, to create energetic, brand-driven and engaging campaigns, activity, PR and audience development initiatives.
To manage and develop the team to achieve high quality, innovative campaigns and activity within allocated budgets for relevant audiences; embedding a data driven, customercentric approach and ensuring the highest standards of staff engagement, safety, efficiency and operation.
To proactively pursue innovative and creative approaches to communications and audience development, maximising the potential of the website and digital media as a communications and engagement tool.
To manage the Marketing and Commercial budget, overseeing the allocation of funds to campaigns, working with the team to negotiate spend and district-wide branding and programmes.
To maximise the income generated by the sale of tickets and merchandise, whilst ensuring that event accessibility to all remains a priority.
To ensure through the delivery of work, opportunities to develop the team and sharing skills, that there is a legacy beyond 2025, including larger and more diverse audiences for cultural events.
To provide line management and support to the Marketing and Commercial team.
Person Specification
Significant experience of leading a marketing and communications team.
Proven experience of managing, monitoring and delivering targets within agreed budgets. – Experience of managing people and successfully delivering engaging and robust sales and marketing and press campaigns.
Good IT skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook.
Ability to organise and prioritise, work well under pressure and adapt to new situations, with accuracy and attention to detail.
Diplomacy, discretion, professionalism with a solution-focused approach.
A passion for the arts, for developing audiences and for exploring new and innovative approaches to communications.
Experience of working with a Customer Relationship Management system.
Knowledge and experience of working with local, regional and national media.
Working Terms
Hours: 37.5 hours a week. These can be worked flexibly, in office and at home. Notice period 3 months. Salary: £70,000 per annum, negotiable. Annual leave: 25 days plus bank holidays Pension contribution: 5%
